Visiting Hyderabad Botanical Garden: A Trip to Remember
Hyderabad Botanical Garden
The Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy Botanical Garden is famously known as Hyderabad Botanical Garden. The garden was conceptualized as an eco-tourist destination and to store the germplasm of various plants to be used for research and science projects. However, it turned out to be a great project that generates and promote awareness among commoners about nature and plants while encouraging them to conserve them.
Developed by the Telangana Forest Department, the garden is sprawled across 274 screws and has 19 dedicated sections or 'vanams' to conserve and develop the plants. Out of this, first five sections or 12 acres of the area are open for the public and are completed. The rest of the sections are still under construction. The five sections include medicinal plants, ornamental plants, fruit trees, timber trees, aquatic plants and bamboos. The park is designed in the form of rolling meadows, grasslands, pastures, fountains and water bodies and rock formations. The paved and open passages take you to these sections.
Bamboo and palm trees can be seen in abundance on the sidewalks. The information board erected by the side of these trees provide generic and scientific information about them. A diverse variety of flowers such as blue salvia, red roseola and purple cosmos make for a picturesque vision!
Recently a renovation was carried out in the park at a cost of Rs. 5 crores. The improvements were made in Rasi Banana, Navagraha Vanam and Nakshatra Vanam. Over 60 species were added to the medicinal plant section. The rose garden, cactus garden and butterfly park are also among the latest attractions in the garden. An environmental education centre and an AV room is also established for an interactive and immersive experience for the tourists. Fibre murals of wild animals are also added to enhance the organic ambience of the garden.
