Bannerghatta National Park

The Bannerghatta National Park was founded in 1970 and declared a biological reserve in the year 2002. The butterfly park is a part of this national park and a popular tourist destination. It rolls in a zoo, pet corner, butterfly enclosure, an aquarium, a safari park, an animal rescue centre and ancient temples. It is an ideal destination for hiking and trekking along on a Sunday morning while enjoying the company of Mother Nature.

The Butterfly Park in Bangalore was inaugurated by Kapil Sibal in 2006. It is a circular enclosure made of a polycarbonate roof in an area of 10,000 square feet. The humid tropical environment is controlled and conducive to the nurturing of butterflies. It also features man-made waterfalls and flora to attract butterflies. This butterfly conservatory also features a museum displaying dioramas and exhibits of carefully preserved butterflies.

Types of butterfly species found at Bangalore butterfly park:

There are thirty types of butterfly species that belong to five different families such as Lycaenidae, Papilionoidea, Hesperidia, Nymphalid and Pieridae. If the weather is favourable, you can spot at least 48 types of species wandering through this wonderland.

How to reach the Bannerghatta Butterfly Park?

This butterfly park in Bangalore is situated about 22 km from the city. It is easily accessible and well-connected via public and private transport. You can take a bus or hire a private cab for a day.

Bangalore's weather is pleasant, however, visiting the park can be a harrowing experience. Therefore, it is probably a good idea to carry a cap, umbrella or hat with you to cover your head against the direct sunlight and heat. Don't forget to bring sunglasses with you to protect yourself against UV rays. Take a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated.
